Airport Assistance for Families and Older Travellers

Airports are designed for people who walk fast and carry little. If you are travelling with young children, with an older relative, or with anyone who needs a slower pace, a little planning removes most of the stress.

What to arrange in advance

• Special assistance with your airline. Wheelchair and mobility assistance is normally requested through the airline, ideally several days before you fly.
• A greeter. A person to meet you, carry bags and stay with you through the airport. See our meet & greet service.
• The right vehicle. Tell us the number of passengers, bags, strollers and any mobility equipment, so the vehicle is the right size.
• Child seats. Ask in advance if you need them, so the vehicle is equipped.

For families with children

• Share ages and any special needs, such as a pushchair or a quiet route.
• Plan for the time it takes, and avoid tight connections.
• Keep documents, snacks and comfort items in a single, easy-to-reach bag.

For older or less mobile travellers

• Ask for step-free routes and seating where you can.
• Keep medication in your hand luggage, with a list of what you take.
• Allow extra time, particularly for immigration and long walks to the gate.

On arrival

A greeter who meets you in the arrivals hall, or closer to the aircraft where the airport allows it, can take you through immigration and baggage reclaim, and hand you to your driver. For a more relaxed journey, book a chauffeur for the onward trip, so there is no queue for a car at the end of a long flight.
