Travel to Saudi Arabia around Ramadan and for Umrah is among the busiest of the year. Flights, hotels and roads fill, and travellers are often older or travelling with family. Planning the airport and ground transport in advance makes a significant difference.
LuxGreet provides airport assistance and chauffeur transfers. We do not issue visas, sell Umrah packages or arrange Hajj permits. Use the official channels, including the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah's Nusuk platform, and authorised providers for those.
Expected dates
Islamic dates follow the lunar calendar, so they depend on moon sighting. As of early November 2026, Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 7 to 9 February 2027, with Eid al-Fitr around 10 or 11 March. Hajj is expected in mid-May 2027. Official announcements are made close to the date, so treat these as estimates and confirm them before you book.
The peak periods
- The first days of Ramadan and the last ten nights are especially busy.
- Eid al-Fitr and school holidays raise demand for flights and cars.
- Book transport as soon as your flights are fixed.
Airports and distances
- Jeddah (JED): King Abdulaziz International Airport is the main gateway for Makkah. Makkah is roughly 80 to 90 km away, and the road journey is typically an hour or more depending on traffic.
- Madinah (MED): Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz Airport serves Madinah directly.
- Between the cities: Makkah and Madinah are around 450 km apart. A high-speed rail line, the Haramain, links Makkah, Jeddah and Madinah, and a chauffeur can also make the journey by road.
Travelling with family or older relatives
- Arrange wheelchair or special assistance with your airline in advance.
- Ask for a greeter who can stay with you through immigration and baggage.
- Consider a larger vehicle, so that everyone and the luggage travel together.
- Plan rest stops on longer road journeys.
